According to Vedic astrology, there are different types of karma that affect our lives and destiny. Karma means action, and it also refers to the consequences of our actions. The Vedas, the ancient scriptures of India, classify karma into three major categories²:

1. Sanchita Karma: The accumulated karma from all our past lives. It is like a pool of karma that contains both good and bad deeds. We cannot experience or exhaust all of our sanchita karma in one lifetime, so we keep taking birth and rebirth until we clear it¹².

2. Prarabdha Karma: The portion of sanchita karma that we have to face in this present lifetime. It is like a scoop of karma taken from the pool of sanchita karma¹²³. Prarabdha karma is also known as the unchanging or fixed karma, because it cannot be avoided or altered once we are born².

3. Agami Karma: The karma that we create in this present lifetime through our thoughts, words, and actions. It is also called kriyamana karma or the current karma. It is the result of our free will and choices, and can be positive or negative depending on whether we act in harmony or disharmony with the universal laws¹². Agami karma can either add to our sanchita karma or reduce it, depending on whether we learn from our mistakes or repeat them².

Vedic astrology can help us understand and deal with our different types of karma. By analyzing our birth chart or kundali, which is a map of the planetary positions at the time of our birth, we can learn about our prarabdha karma. The planets act as the cosmic postmen who deliver our karmic results at the appropriate time and place².

Vedic astrology can also suggest various remedies or upayas to reduce the negative effects of our prarabdha karma and enhance the positive effects of our agami karma. These remedies may include chanting mantras, wearing gemstones, performing rituals, donating to charity, serving others, meditating, etc²⁴.
